IW4‑SP (Windows)

Required: You must own the game on Steam. If your Steam account doesn’t own it, the client will not work.

Step 1 — Locate your game folder

Find where Steam installed Modern Warfare 2 (2009). Example path on Windows:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2

Step 2 — Get the IW4x‑SP client

Download the singleplayer client executable and save it to your PC:

Step 3 — Get the 159 IW4 patch

Download the IW4 singleplayer binary required for the 159 patch:

Step 4 — Copy files into the game folder

Move both files you downloaded — iw4x-sp.exe and iw4sp.exe — into your game folder from Step 1. They should sit next to the other game .exe files.

Step 5 — Launch

Double‑click iw4x-sp.exe to start singleplayer.

Tips:

  • Don’t launch from Steam. Use iw4x-sp.exe directly.
  • If it says the game can’t be found, re‑check that both files are in the correct game directory.
